The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) continues to exhibit a steady trend against major global currencies on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Rates from Forex.pk indicate that interbank and open markets are at a narrow spread, reflecting a period of relative macroeconomic calm and controlled volatility.
In the interbank market, the US dollar was quoted at a weighted average of 279.85 for buying and 280.35 for selling.

The open market showed a slight premium, with the greenback trading at 280.7 for buying and 282.8 for selling.

The difference between interbank and open market rates remains within a healthy threshold, a key requirement for ongoing engagement with international financial institutions.
The Saudi Riyal and UAE Dirham, closely watched due to remittance inflows, remained stable at 75.25 and 77.10, respectively, in the open market.
The British pound led the gains in value among major currencies, selling at 380.00 in the open market, followed by the euro at 329.00.
The stability observed in early 2026 is attributed to consistent remittance flows and a proactive monetary policy by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Analysts suggest that the recent focus on digital payment infrastructure and the integration of stablecoin frameworks for cross-border trade have begun to provide a more predictable environment for the local currency.
