Pakistani actress and television host Maya Khan recently revealed a personal struggle during an interview on the morning show Rise and Shine with Nadia Khan.
Joining via Zoom, Maya shared that her ex-husband had taken all her savings, leaving her in financial distress.
Maya Khan, known for her work in PTV dramas like Aik Muhabbat So Afsaney and her hit morning show on Samaa TV, said the experience was traumatic. She explained that she had proof of her claims and spent two years in court trying to recover her money, but was unsuccessful.
“I could have gone to the media at that time, but trauma clouds your mind. You focus on surviving, not publicizing your struggle,” she said.
The actress described the difficulties of attending court proceedings while being recognized publicly. “Even covering my face didn’t stop people from recognizing me. It was shocking to see myself in such a weak position,” she added.
Maya Khan has had a successful career both in acting and business. She recently returned to television with the drama Mayi Ri and received praise for her role as Waniya in Baray Bhaiyya. She also runs a herbal brand, has written a book, and is preparing to launch a podcast on digital media.
Earlier, Maya recalled that at the peak of her television career, she was among the highest-paid morning show hosts in the country.
She revealed that there was a time when she earned Rs25 lakh per show, a figure that often surprised her peers. According to her, fellow anchor Iqrar-ul-Hassan would sometimes ask about her fees out of sheer curiosity, as such salaries were rare in the industry.
However, she said the landscape changed significantly in the following years. Maya revealed that in 2020, she agreed to host a show for just Rs4 lakh, a moment she described as emotionally overwhelming. She admitted that the sudden drop made her feel as if she had “fallen from the sky,” forcing her to confront a new reality she had never imagined during her peak years.
