Indian actress Reem Sheikh has said she cannot envisage marrying someone from a different religion, citing her strong personal faith and family experiences.
In a recent interview, Sheikh shared her views on interfaith relationships. When asked whether falling in love with someone of another faith would complicate matters, she replied unequivocally that it would not be possible for her.
“I am a very religious person,” she said. “I pray five times a day and have recently started observing fasts, so I don’t think I could marry someone from a different religion.”
Speaking about love in general, Sheikh explained that her family experiences have shaped her perspective. “I have seen divorce in my own home and witnessed relationships breaking around me, so I have every reason not to trust in love,” she said.
She added that love is also a means of connecting with God: “Without love, you cannot form meaningful relationships with God or the people around you.”
Sheikh comes from an interfaith family herself, with a Hindu mother and Muslim father.
