The Federal Minister for Health has inaugurated Karachi’s first Digital Health Centre.

Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal formally opened the city’s first Digital Health Centre at the Federal Government Dispensary, Civil Aviation. The centre will provide medical treatment through advanced telemedicine facilities, allowing doctors based abroad to examine patients via live video consultations.

Patients visiting the centre will also be provided with free medicines.

The facility is particularly significant for patients suffering from complex illnesses such as breast, liver and lung cancer.

Speaking at the inauguration, the health minister said the initiative aims to reduce overcrowding in major hospitals and provide quality healthcare services closer to people’s homes.

He noted that Pakistan has increasingly become a “patient-producing society”, where even minor ailments lead people to seek treatment at large hospitals, placing unnecessary pressure on the healthcare system. To address this, the government is strengthening primary healthcare facilities so citizens can access reliable treatment near their residences.

Mustafa Kamal stated that this is Karachi’s first Digital Health Centre and that similar centres will be established across the country in the future to ensure timely and quality healthcare for all citizens.

He also stressed the importance of focusing on disease prevention through vaccination and primary care.

He added that an agreement was signed a day earlier under which medicines worth Rs 9.8 million will be provided to 745 patients suffering from breast, liver and lung cancer in Islamabad.
