Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the Karachi Transformation Plan, which seeks to establish a partnership with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to drive world-class development across the port city.

The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi, was attended by Sindh Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah, Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Haider Shah, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, and Secretary Finance Fayaz Jatoi. The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) delegation was led by its Director General, Major General Abdul Sami.

According to a statement issued from the Chief Minister’s House, the Sindh Chief Minister discussed large-scale development initiatives for Karachi, including mega infrastructure and connectivity projects.

At the outset of the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the Sindh government intends to implement a comprehensive development plan for Karachi and announced a one-time grant of Rs84.796 billion for 523 schemes across the city. He further informed the participants that Rs26.282 billion has also been approved for Karachi-related schemes under the Federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized his desire to launch development projects in partnership with the FWO to ensure quality, speed, and transparency. He stressed that the planning and design of all mega and key projects must meet international standards, as Karachi’s development should be on par with the world’s leading cities.

He also briefed the meeting that, to address severe traffic issues, improve connectivity, and strengthen urban mobility, six priority infrastructure projects worth Rs10.72 billion under the Karachi Division have been identified for immediate completion.

These priority schemes include the rehabilitation of roads from the M-9 to Malir-15 via Jinnah Avenue and Shahrah-e-Faisal; construction of a right-turn underpass at Malir Halt from Printing Press to Shahrah-e-Faisal; and construction of a flyover from Airport Road to Star Gate on Shahrah-e-Faisal to improve access to the airport.

Other projects include the rehabilitation of the road from Y-Junction to Machli Chowk at Hawksbay and the construction of a flyover at Sohrab Goth, which serves as Karachi’s main gateway for intercity traffic.
