The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has hit al-time high as the benchmark KSE-100 Index crossed the 181,000 level in early trading on Monday.
At 10:14am, the benchmark index was trading at 181,260.40, up 2225.47 points or 1.24%.
Buying interest was seen across key sectors, including automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration companies, OMCs, and power generation.
Last week, Pakistan’s equity market continued its strong upward momentum, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index closing at a record high. Easing inflationary pressures, robust sectoral performance, and increased investor participation reinforced bullish sentiment.
The KSE-100 Index surged by 6,634 points, marking a week-on-week gain of 3.8%, and settled at 179,035 points, up from 172,401 points the previous week.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) will provide policy advisory and technical support for energy financing to help Pakistan develop its Energy Transition Investment Plan (ETIP).
The country’s energy transition is vital for economic resilience, meeting climate commitments, and ensuring fiscal stability.
Pakistan’s heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels, combined with a circular debt crisis exceeding Rs2.6 trillion, highlights the urgency of shifting to renewable energy to meet demand by 2030. However, challenges such as policy inconsistencies, dependence on fossil fuels, and limited access to concessional financing continue to slow progress.
