Registered pilgrims under the Government Hajj Scheme have been informed of an increase in airfare costs, adding to their financial burden.
The government has included an additional Rs1.67 billion under the head of extra airfares. As a result, each pilgrim will now have to pay an extra Rs14,000.
After the increase, the total airfare per pilgrim has risen to Rs238,000, compared to Rs224,000 last year.
Under the government scheme, travel facilities will be provided by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Saudi Airlines, and two private airlines. This year, around 119,210 pilgrims are expected to perform Hajj through the government scheme.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs said the increase in airfare is due to agreements signed with airlines to ensure sufficient flights and safe, well-organised travel for all pilgrims. Pilgrims have been advised to prepare for the additional expense and complete payments on time to confirm their seats.
