Minister of State for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry has said that terrorist organizations are actively using social media platforms to spread their messages and influence public opinion.
Speaking at a news conference, Talal Chaudhry said some elements are working against national security. He stressed that there would be no compromise on the country’s sovereignty under any circumstances.
The minister said the government fully believes in freedom of expression. However, he added that a coordinated and harmful campaign is being run on social media to target state institutions and damage their credibility.
Talal Chaudhry alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is systematically running social media campaigns against national institutions.
He claimed that organized trends are also created in support of the banned terrorist organization Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
According to him, money is paid to generate messages, hashtags, and trends, and these activities are managed in an organized manner.
He further stated that several PTI-linked social media accounts are being operated from abroad and are also used to promote trends linked to terrorist groups.
The minister warned that anyone found participating in trends or campaigns that harm the country’s interests could face legal action. He also revealed that many of these trends are run through foreign-based companies, which often change account names to avoid detection.
