Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has denied reports claiming that its crew went missing in Toronto or sought political asylum.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, a PIA spokesperson strongly rejected what was described as a false report circulated by an Afghan and Pakistan-hostile account, alleging that the entire crew of a PIA Toronto flight had applied for political asylum.
According to the spokesperson, the misleading post was part of a deliberate, malicious campaign driven by anti-Pakistan motives, aimed at damaging the reputation of the national airline and Pakistan’s image.
The spokesperson categorically stated that there is no truth to such claims.
It may be recalled that in the past, reports have surfaced regarding PIA crew members going missing in Canada. On the 21st of the month, a report emerged about a PIA flight attendant going missing in Canada, following which the national airline initiated an inquiry.
PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan had earlier stated that a flight attendant on flight PK-798, operating from Toronto to Lahore, failed to report for duty. When contacted, the crew member cited illness as the reason.
He added that the matter was under investigation and that departmental action would be initiated against the flight attendant if unlawful disappearance was confirmed.
