Three young boys were killed and another child injured when a quadcopter crashed in a residential area of Mamand Khel, Bannu, on Saturday, it emerged on Sunday.
The incident came a day after the Sheikh Landik police post in Bannu was targeted in coordinated terrorist attacks involving quadcopters and sniper fire, local media reported citing police sources.
Officials said that on Friday, attackers dropped two explosive-laden quadcopters near the police post while simultaneously opening sniper fire from another direction. Both devices exploded after landing close to the building; however, no casualties were reported in that attack.
On Saturday, residents said a quadcopter crashed in the Pattona Mamand Khel area, killing Faisal, 16, Abrar, 20, and Muhammad, 12, while nine-year-old Muhammad Aiman sustained injuries.
Rescue teams and security personnel rushed to the site as locals gathered, after which the area was cordoned off and an investigation launched to determine the drone’s origin and purpose.
