Indian and Afghan social media accounts have launched a false and baseless propaganda campaign to malign Pakistan in connection with the Sydney incident.
These accounts falsely identified Sheikh Naveed, a Pakistani youth residing in Australia, as one of the attackers.
Responding to the misuse of his photographs, Sheikh Naveed issued a statement on social media clarifying that he has no connection whatsoever with any act of terrorism and that false information is being spread by using his images.
According to a Geo News report, Sheikh Naveed stated that the unfounded propaganda has put both his personal safety and reputation at serious risk. He appealed for immediate action to stop the false campaign being run against him on social media.
It is pertinent to note that 12 people were killed and 19 others, including two police officers, were injured in a terrorist incident in Sydney, Australia.
Police said that one attacker was killed during the counter-operation, while the second suspect was taken into custody in an injured condition.
Australian and British media reported that one of the attackers was identified as Naveed Akram, a resident of Sydney.
During the incident, a Muslim man named Ahmed attempted to overpower the attacker and seize his weapon, sustaining injuries in the process. The attack occurred at Bondi Beach during a Jewish religious gathering.
