Safe City has advised the public not to fall victim to such fraudulent schemes as complaints have emerged in Punjab about citizens receiving fake e-challan (SMS) messages.
According to a Safe City spokesperson, Safe City never requests cash, account, or bank details via SMS. Genuine e-challan SMS messages are sent only from the official Punjab government number 8070.
Fraudsters attempt to trick citizens into clicking on links to steal money. Therefore, the public is strongly advised not to make payments through any suspicious SMS or website. All Safe City services are completely free for citizens.

The spokesperson further added that upon receiving a suspicious or fake message, citizens should immediately contact 15 (police helpline) or the FIA Cyber Wing. Genuine e-challan SMS messages always include the time, location, and details of the violation.
Safe City has made it clear that strict action will be taken against anyone committing fraud in its name.
