The government has taken another step toward modernizing the power sector by launching public helpline 118 to address issues related to electricity services.
The helpline was inaugurated by Minister of Energy Sardar Awais Leghari. Through this service, consumers will be able to register electricity-related complaints free of charge.
Complaints lodged through the helpline can also be tracked and traced. Consumers will be able to file complaints directly into the system without needing a representative. They will also have the option to register complaints in seven different languages.
Once a complaint is resolved, the concerned consumer will receive a robotic feedback call. If the issue remains unresolved, the complaint will automatically be reactivated.
“This system will strengthen accountability and ensure resolution of complaints in the power sector,” says Energy Minister
Speaking at the ceremony, Energy Minister Awais Leghari said that this system will bring complaints to the forefront, and it will promote self-accountability within the power sector.
He added that without the support of the Prime Minister, field officials, and government institutions, such progress would not have been possible. “From today, every instance of negligence will come to light, and we will have to take responsibility and act accordingly,” he said.
