Following the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which introduced major changes to Article 243 concerning the armed forces, the government has reportedly decided to reappoint Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu to lead the Pakistan Air Force for another five-year term starting in March next year.
Sidhu, who assumed command in March 2021, had previously received a one-year extension in March 2024.
According to The News, citing highly placed sources, the Prime Minister, on the advice of the Chief of Army Staff, will appoint the Commander of the National Strategic Command. The position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be abolished effective November 27, 2025.
The report further claimed that two additional four-star generals will be appointed in the Pakistan Army later this month following the promotion of several three-star officers.
The army will then include a Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) and a Commander of the National Strategic Command. Both will hold four-star ranks and serve under the Chief of the Defense Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the sources added.
Officers elevated to the ranks of Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, or Admiral of the Fleet will retain their titles, privileges, and uniforms for life, with future responsibilities to be determined by the federal government.
