The government of Sindh on Tuesday extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for one month, continuing the ban on protests, sit-ins, rallies, and public gatherings to maintain law and order in the interest of public and peace.
It should be noted that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code is a legal provision that empowers district administrations to prohibit an assembly of four or more people in an area for a limited period.
The Sindh Home Department has announced that, starting November 12, gatherings of more than five people in any public area will be prohibited across all districts of Sindh.
According to the notification, the measure has been implemented in light of the current security situation and on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police.
Last month, the Sindh home department imposed Section 144 across the province for a period of one month.
The notification was issued after Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) began marching towards Islamabad to express ‘solidarity with Palestinians’, after clashing with the police in Lahore.
