Screenwriter and director James Vanderbilt proves his fascination with intricate human psychology in his latest film, “Nuremberg”, a post-World War II drama that frames the historic Nazi tribunal as a tense psychological duel.
The story is about Nazi officer Hermann Göring, played by Russell Crowe, and U.S. Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley, played by Rami Malek, who has been assigned to decide if Göring is mentally fit to face trial for his war crimes.
Based on the non-fiction book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist by Jack El-Hai, this movie doesn’t rely on courtroom theatrics typical of legal dramas but rather on the mental play and ethical dilemmas set during this time.
The film digs deep into the psychological battle between a high-ranking Nazi leader, often described as Hitler’s right-hand man, and the psychiatrist navigating the horrors of his mind.
