DIG Traffic revealed that since the launch of the e-challan system in Karachi, traffic personnel have started requesting transfers, as reported by national media on Sunday.
Whether the reason is the installation of cameras in Karachi or the withdrawal of challan authority, in any case, personnel have begun transferring out of the traffic police department. DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah said that those who do not work are getting themselves transferred from traffic police to district police.
In a conversation with media representatives, Peer Muhammad Shah said, “Those who do not work are getting their transfers done themselves, and we are not interested in stopping them.”
He said that 800 officers who issue challans have been made part of the regulation; traffic police officers used to suddenly attack in the name of challan — they were untrained, and people were fed up with that. Now only those will remain in the force who work with honesty and integrity.
DIG Traffic said, “We want to build such an institution that people love the traffic police department. There are also plans to provide pick-and-drop, food, and appreciation incentives to personnel.”
He said that now young recruits are being brought forward in the traffic police force so that the force can get new blood and change can take place. He added that cameras’ installation will also help monitor the traffic personnel themselves.
