The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has recovered Rs 42.5 million from six officers of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) as the Lahore District Court has approved an additional three-day physical remand for suspects in a bribery case. The court has ordered the suspects to be presented again on November 3.
The six arrested NCCIA officers, accused of accepting bribes, were produced before the court today. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requested a 14-day physical remand for further investigation.
However, the defense lawyers opposed the request, arguing that the suspects had already been on a three-day remand and that no solid evidence had been presented to support the bribery allegations.
During the proceedings, the FIA submitted an investigation report to the court, saying that Rs 42.548 million had been recovered from the accused officers. According to the report, Rs 7 million were recovered from Ali Raza, Rs 900,000 from Zawar, and Rs 1.9 million from Yasir Gujar.
Moreover, Assistant Director Shoaib Riaz was found with Rs 3.648 million, while Additional Director Chaudhry Sarfraz had Rs 12.548 million recovered from his possession.
The FIA also informed the court that an inquiry into assets beyond known income has been launched against the accused. The investigation officer said records are being collected to verify the suspects’ properties and to determine which call centers were allegedly involved in the bribery scheme.
After hearing arguments, the court reserved its decision and later granted the FIA an additional three-day physical remand, directing that the accused be produced again on November 3.
