The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday gained nearly 5,000 points amid renewed peace talks between Islamabad and Kabul.
At the close, the benchmark KSE-100 Index settled at 161,631.73, showing an increase of 4,898.86 points, or 3.13%.
Strong buying interest was observed in major sectors, including cement, commercial banks, automobiles, and oil and gas companies. Among the index-heavy stocks, HUBCO, MARI, OGDC, PPL, POL, PSO, SSGC, and SNGPL all traded in the green.
It is worth noting that the PSX had extended its losing streak on Thursday, when selling pressure pushed the benchmark down by 1,732.19 points, or 1.09%, closing at 156,732.87 points.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee continued its upward momentum against the US dollar, appreciating by Rs0.01 to settle at 280.91 in the interbank market. On Thursday, the local currency had closed at 280.92 against the greenback.
