A new 10-member cabinet of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took oath on Friday, with Governor Faisal Karim Kundi administering the oath to the newly appointed ministers.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Governor House in Peshawar, attended by Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi, members of the provincial assembly, and senior civil officials.
The new cabinet members include Aftab Alam, Amjad Ali, Fazal Shakoor Khan, Arshad Ayub, Meena Khan, Khaleeq-ur-Rehman, Riaz Khan, Fakhar Jahan, Aqibullah, and Faisal Tarakai.
In addition, Muzzammil Aslam and Taj Muhammad have been appointed as advisers to Chief Minister Sohaib Khan Afridi, while Shafi Jan has been designated as a special assistant. This brings the total strength of the KP cabinet to 13 members.
It may be recalled that on October 8, Ali Amin Gandapur announced his resignation as the provincial chief executive. Later, PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja confirmed that party chairman Imran Khan had nominated Sohaib Afridi as the new Chief Minister.
The resignation matter took a new turn when Governor Faisal Karim Kundi returned two resignation letters from Ali Amin Gandapur, citing discrepancies in signatures, and summoned him to the Governor House on October 15 to resolve the issue.
On the night of October 12, Governor Kundi posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that “the Chief Minister’s resignation has been returned with objections.”
