Netflix is producing a new eight-episode historical drama series titled Kennedy, set to star Michael Fassbender as the family patriarch, Joseph “Joe” Kennedy Sr.
The series, inspired by Fredrik Logevall’s book JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, will begin in the 1930s and chart the Kennedy family’s rise to political power.

The show is being run by showrunner Sam Shaw (Masters of Sex), and the eight-episode first season will be directed by Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round).
The series will examine the “intimate lives, loves, rivalries, and tragedies” that shaped the famous family dynasty.
The first season will primarily focus on Joe and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, including John F. “Jack” Kennedy.
The new series is reportedly Netflix’s attempt to create an American version of its popular royal drama The Crown.
