The two Hindi films, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat and Thamma, are clashing at the box office, having both been released in theaters today, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for Diwali.
A horror-comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, part of the established Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe (which includes hits like Stree and Munjya).
The narrative centers on Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana), a quirky and talkative small-town TV reporter living with his parents.
His life takes a drastic turn when a trekking trip in the hills leads to an unexpected bear attack. He is rescued and healed by a mysterious and fierce woman named Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna), who is part of a hidden tribe of ancient beings.

A romance blossoms between Alok and Tadaka, but their love is forbidden due to their different worlds.
It has generated more hype, secured a significantly higher number of screens (around 4,000 across India), and is leading in advance bookings.
On the other hand, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is an intense romantic drama featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa.
Despite having a strong musical score and a dedicated audience following Harshvardhan Rane’s previous success with Sanam Teri Kasam, it is expected to have a lower opening compared to Thamma due to fewer screens and less initial buzz.
The story revolves around Vikramaditya, a passionate artist, who falls deeply in love with Adaa, a free-spirited woman. Their initial romance is intense, but the conflict arises from their fundamentally different views on love: Adaa sees love as liberation, while Vikramaditya’s affection slowly turns possessive.
As the narrative unfolds, Vikramaditya’s insecurities and obsessive tendencies begin to consume him, causing a rift in their relationship. The film captures the dramatic conflict between love and hate, respect and defiance, exploring the fine line between devotion and madness.
The box office battle is a major point of discussion in the industry, with trade analysts predicting a much larger opening day collection for Thamma.
There were even reports of a screen allocation controversy, with the makers of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat alleging that multiplexes were favoring Thamma, although this was reportedly resolved.
