Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will undertake a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia next week, accompanied by civil and military leadership. During the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with senior Saudi officials.
According to media reports, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will lead a delegation including political and military leaders as well as federal ministers on this three-day trip to Saudi Arabia.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold meetings with Saudi Arabia’s top leadership and will also address the Future Investment Initiative.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had made an unofficial visit to Saudi Arabia on September 17 last month. On that occasion, he and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed a ‘bilateral strategic defense agreement’ in Riyadh, under which an attack on either country would be considered an attack on both.
This agreement emerged at a time when the recent Arab summit signaled a collective security approach in the context of Israel’s actions against Qatar, indicating that the pact is linked to current global circumstances and reflects the defense concerns of both countries.
Moreover, the agreement is also viewed in light of the tense Pakistan-India relations and the Iran-Israel conflict, following a brief clash between India and Pakistan in May and a 12-day war between Iran and Israel in June.
