The government of Punjab has decided to send a formal recommendation to the federal government to ban Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
According to sources, the provincial government will take the position in the recommendation that the activities of TLP are posing a threat to law and order in the province; therefore, immediate action should be taken at the federal level to declare the organization banned.
According to sources, the recommendation has suggested that the central and district leadership of the organization be included in the Fourth Schedule under the Anti-Terrorism Act so that their movements and activities can be fully monitored.
It has been further said that all properties, offices, and other assets of people associated with TLP will be handed over to the Auqaf Department.
Sources say that the government has also decided to completely ban the organization’s promotional activities, under which orders will be issued to remove all posters, banners, wall chalking, and advertising materials of TLP.
All the organization’s accounts on social media platforms will be closed, while the bank accounts of individuals associated with them will be frozen.
The government maintains that violence, incitement, and spreading hatred against state institutions in the name of religion cannot be allowed, and strict measures have become necessary to maintain peace and stability in Punjab.
It is worth mentioning that Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan was also banned by the government of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in April 2021 when the organization staged nationwide protests against the French ambassador, resulting in several deaths and dozens of officials being injured.
At that time, TLP was also included in the list of banned organizations, but later this ban was lifted as a result of some political compromises.
