Google is investing $15 billion over five years to establish its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in India, to be located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The announcement was made on October 14, 2025, and marks Google’s largest single investment in India to date.

The facility will become the company’s largest AI hub outside of the United States that combines Google’s full AI stack with robust infrastructure.

A purpose-built data center campus will provide significant compute capacity to meet the growing demand for digital services in India and globally.

This will establish new subsea cable landings in Visakhapatnam, complementing existing locations in Mumbai and Chennai.

This expanded network will enhance connectivity resilience, improve latency, and position Visakhapatnam as a global AI and connectivity center.

In line with India’s sustainability goals, Google will work with local partners to expand the clean energy portfolio in Andhra Pradesh, including new transmission lines, clean energy generation, and storage systems.

The project includes a robust, expanded fiber network in partnership with Bharti Airtel to ensure high-capacity, low-latency connectivity.

Google is undertaking this major investment in collaboration with strategic partners and with the support of the Indian government.

The initiative is aligned with the government’s plan for a digitally advanced and AI-first India.

The announcement was made at the Bharat AI Shakti event in New Delhi, attended by several Indian ministers and Google executives.

Impact on India

Google’s new AI hub is expected to have a significant impact on India’s technology landscape and economy.

The hub will provide businesses and startups with the high-performance, low-latency services needed to build and scale their own AI-powered solutions, boosting innovation and R&D.

The investment is expected to create thousands of local jobs in construction, engineering, and data center operations. Andhra Pradesh officials also projected that the data center alone could create up to 188,000 jobs.

By delivering industry-leading AI infrastructure, the hub will help cement India’s place as a global leader in the AI-driven era.

The project will help Google comply with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, by storing Indian consumer data within the country.
