US President Donald Trump has announced the breakthrough in a post on social media, saying Israel and Hamas have agreed on the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire deal. However, the key points of the deal remained under the wrap until Hamas leader Osama Hamdan unveiled details of Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Under the pact, Israeli forces would withdraw from Gaza City, the northern areas, Rafah and Khan Younis, and 600 aid trucks would enter Gaza daily through five border crossings, Hamadan said.

He emphasized that a prisoner exchange would take place only after an official declaration that the war has ended, and urged the international community to monitor Israel’s conduct to ensure the agreement is implemented.

In an interview with Al Arabiya TV, senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan said the deal between the parties constitutes a full end to the war on Gaza, and called on the international community to keep watch over Israel’s behavior to guarantee implementation of the pact.

Hamdan reiterated that prisoners will be exchanged only after an official declaration marking the end of hostilities.

He said the central clause of the agreement is the termination of the war in Gaza, and that mediators have assured Hamas that Israel will not violate the pact.

According to Hamdan, the mediators have empowered the United States to make the formal announcement of the ceasefire. Under the agreement, 250 prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 prisoners from Gaza would be released. All prominent Palestinian detainee leaders have been included in the lists submitted for release.

Hamdan said implementation of the ceasefire would follow ratification by the Israeli government, and that Israeli forces should withdraw from Gaza City, the northern area, Rafah and Khan Younis.

He added that the first phase of the agreement would satisfy the Palestinian public’s primary demand: an end to the aggression against Gaza.
