The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) safety teams conducted an operation on Motorway M-5, seizing 4,000 kilograms of hazardous meat of dead chickens being transported by bus.
According to a PFA spokesperson, two suspects involved in the meat supply were arrested, and criminal cases have been registered against them.
The spokesperson said that 90 maunds (approximately 4,000 kg) of unfit chicken meat was being transported from Vehari to Karachi, where the spoiled meat was intended to be supplied to hotels.
The recovered dead chicken meat was immediately destroyed on the spot.
Earlier, in Bahawalnagar, authorities had intercepted another consignment of dead chicken meat meant for fast food outlets, arresting two suspects.
The Food Safety Team carried out a major raid near the Railway Roundabout in Bahawalnagar and recovered hundreds of dead chickens from Arifwala Road, which were also destroyed on-site.
Director General of the Food Authority, Asim Javed, stated that the meat from dead chickens was being supplied to fast food vendors in the city, but all the recovered meat was disposed of immediately.
Separately, DG Asim Javed also led an operation at Tollinton Market, where, along with the Meat Safety Task Force, authorities confiscated and destroyed 1,800 kilograms of diseased chicken.
