Despite facing delays and cancellation rumors, HBO confirmed in February 2025 that Euphoria has been renewed for a third season and was officially in production.
HBO’s Euphoria is an American teen drama series created by Sam Levinson and starring Zendaya as Rue Bennett, a struggling teenager with substance abuse disorder.
The show, which premiered in 2019, explores the complex lives of a group of high school students navigating sex, drugs, trauma, and identity in the fictional town of East Highland, California.
The production work began in Los Angeles in February 2025 and will drop around late March to early April on HBO Max.
The new season will be set approximately five years in the future, bringing the characters out of high school.
The core cast is expected to return, including Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Alexa Demie. However, Barbie Ferreira (Kat) and Storm Reid (Gia) announced they will not be back.
The season will address the absence of actor Angus Cloud, who passed away in 2023. His character, Fezco, will not return.
Season 3 promises to answer the questions that were left hanging in Season 2, such as whether Rue manages to stay sober, what happens after Lexi’s play about her friends, and the ongoing problems with Nate’s family.
While the specific details of the narrative are still under wraps, Season 3 will show the characters living in a much bigger world.
Creator Sam Levinson has indicated the new season will have a “film noir” style, focusing on what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.
