Meta has launched the Instagram Map feature in Pakistan, offering users a new and interactive way to discover content and stay connected with friends — all while maintaining strong privacy controls.
In a press release, the company announced that the feature is now directly accessible at the top of users’ DM inboxes.
The new feature allows Pakistani users to share their location and explore Stories, Reels, Posts, and Notes tagged with locations. This enables them to easily find out what their friends or favorite creators are sharing from concerts, cafes, or local venues. Users also have the option to share their last active location with specific friends, close friends, or no one at all.
Meta emphasized that privacy is central to the experience. Location sharing is off by default, and users have full control over who can see their location. A clear indicator on the map shows whether location sharing is active, and reminders appear when adding location tags to content.
The press release further stated that parents of teen users on Instagram will also have the ability to view and manage their children’s location-sharing preferences through parental supervision tools.
Meta also highlighted improvements made to the Instagram Map feature, including:
- Removal of profile photos from the map
- Clear indicators when location sharing is turned off
- A preview of how tagged content will appear on the map before it’s shared
This new feature aims to make Instagram more engaging for users in Pakistan while upholding Meta’s commitment to safety and privacy.
