India Women beat Pakistan Women by 88 runs in its group-stage match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 on Sunday.
Pakistan Women were bowled out for 159 in 43 overs while chasing 248. Despite a valiant 81 off 106 by opener Sidra Amin, the rest of the batting lineup collapsed under pressure. Kranti Goud (3/20) and Deepti Sharma (3/45) led India’s bowling attack, as Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first. On a challenging pitch, India posted 247, largely thanks to a late surge from Richa Ghosh, who scored a blistering 35 off just 20 balls after coming in at No. 8 in the 45th over. Her quickfire knock, featuring two sixes and three fours, helped India reach the highest-ever Women’s ODI total without a fifty-run partnership.
While most Indian batters struggled to score freely, Harleen Deol top-scored with 46, anchoring the innings. Jemimah Rodrigues, who chipped in with 32, later described the surface as “not an easy pitch” for batting, a sentiment reflected in the lack of big partnerships.
Pakistan’s bowlers, disciplined and consistent, kept India in check for most of the innings, preventing them from accelerating through the middle overs. Diana Baig took 4/69, while Captain Fatima Sana and Sadia Iqbal grabbed two wickets each.

A major talking point was the continued absence of the traditional post-toss handshake between the captains. Neither India’s Harmanpreet Kaur nor Pakistan’s Fatima Sana extended a greeting after the toss, instead giving brief interviews before heading back to their dressing rooms.
