The Dairy Farmers Association has announced that the price of milk in Karachi will be increased to Rs 300 per litre from October 11. This decision came after the negotiations held at the Commissioner Karachi’s office on October 2 failed to reach any conclusion.
According to the association’s president, Shakir Umar Gujjar, the production cost of milk has currently reached Rs 271 per litre, and when delivery and retail costs are included, the price reaches Rs 300 per litre.
According to sources, the proposal to officially issue a new price notification was considered in the meeting; however, due to unknown reasons, the meeting was left incomplete, and the notification could not be issued.
Representatives of the Dairy Farmers Association, Retailers Association, and Wholesalers Association staged a sit-in at the Commissioner’s office and demanded that an official price notification be issued immediately.
These organizations have made it clear that even if the government does not formally approve this decision, the new price will come into effect from October 11 as all major stakeholders connected to the milk supply chain have already agreed on it.
Citizens are expressing serious concern over this announcement as they are already facing high inflation in the country.
