The Sindh government is considering strict measures against parents who refuse to vaccinate their children against polio, including blocking their mobile SIMs and suspending their national identity cards (CNICs) and passports.
A dedicated Polio Vaccine Refusal Cell will also be established at the Chief Minister’s House to compile data on such parents.
Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, is planning to take firm action against those who endanger not only their own children but others by refusing the polio vaccine.
Proposed actions include restricting communication and travel privileges of non-compliant parents to hold them accountable for undermining national polio eradication efforts.
Chairing a high-level anti-polio meeting, the CM said, “I have no option left but to penalize those who shirk their national responsibility. The fight against polio begins at home and impacts the entire province and country.”

The new cell will gather information from union councils about vaccine refusals so authorities can address them through social, political, and administrative channels.
Expressing concern over new polio cases despite continued efforts, Shah warned that no negligence would be tolerated. “Any official failing to perform will no longer be part of my team,” he added.
Nine cases have been reported so far this year in Sindh.
