Polling is underway for by-elections on 28 seats in 14 districts of Sindh. Election Commission officials say polling will continue uninterrupted until 5 p.m, as reported by national media on Wednesday.
A control room has been set up to monitor provincial local government elections. The Provincial Election Commissioner says this control room will remain active until the receipt of by-election results.
The 14 districts of the province where polling is taking place include 3 districts of Karachi, where polling has already begun. Officials say the purpose of the polling is the election of public representatives.
Through today’s polling, 2 district council members, 6 chairmen, 7 vice chairmen, and 13 general ward members will be elected. In the areas where elections are being held, a public holiday has also been announced.
Apart from Karachi, these by-elections are being held in Kashmore, Kandhkot, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Matiari, Dadu, Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Badin, and Thatta.
In Karachi, the by-election is being held on 5 seats in 3 districts. During the polling in District East, West, and Keamari, 1 chairman, 3 vice chairmen, and 1 general member will be elected. Overall, 2 district council members, 6 chairmen, 7 vice chairmen, and 13 general ward members will be elected, including seats from Karachi and other districts.
