The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued notices to jewelers who are not paying taxes. Officials say that in case of tax default, legal action may be taken, as reported by national media on Tuesday.
According to details, FBR has issued notices to jewelers in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, and Multan, demanding a response regarding tax matters.
Yesterday, news emerged that FBR has collected data of 60,000 jewelers, out of which only 21,000 are registered with FBR, and among these 21,000 registered jewelers, only 10,524 have filed tax returns.
Sources said that most jewelers are underreporting their income to evade taxes. Action has been initiated against tax-evading jewelers, for which a list of 900 jewelers in Punjab has been prepared in the first phase.
It is worth mentioning that businessmen and traders across the country, including jewelers, are more interested in saving taxes than paying them, and manipulating tax returns has become a routine practice.
