The Afghan Taliban government has issued a response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement about taking back Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan, saying they want mutual beneficial relations. However, they rejected any possibility of having a US base on Afghan soil.
During a recent visit to the United Kingdom, President Trump said that he would seek to reclaim Bagram Airbase from Afghanistan. He said that the base is located just an hour away from China’s nuclear facilities.
Reacting to Trump’s remarks, the Taliban government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said: “We seek relations with the United States based on mutual respect and trade benefits.”
He further added that the Taliban are open to negotiations with the U.S. on trade and bilateral relations, but firmly reject any form of American military presence in Afghanistan.
The spokesperson also emphasized: “It is simply not possible for U.S. military forces to return to Afghanistan.”
