The Dumper and Oil Tankers Association staged a sit-in protest at the Superhighway near Al Asif Square on Friday evening, disrupting traffic flow towards Hyderabad.
The protest was sparked by the removal of the Sohrab Goth Chowrangi (roundabout), which the association claims has significantly increased travel distances and created logistical hurdles for heavy vehicles.
Protesters blocked the highway and demanded that the authorities either restore the roundabout or provide a viable alternative, such as a U-turn, to ease vehicle movement in the area.
This protest follows a similar demonstration last month, when the Dumper Truck Association blocked the Superhighway and routes from Sohrab Goth to Thatta. That protest came in response to a violent incident in which a mob set seven dumper trucks ablaze.
Speaking to the media, Dumper Truck Association leader Liaquat Mehsud condemned the Sindh government for imposing a ban on dumper truck movement from morning until 10 p.m. daily. He argued that such restrictions are detrimental to the transport industry and fail to address the root issues faced by truck operators.
“The removal of the roundabout and restrictions on movement are crippling our operations. We demand immediate intervention from the authorities,” Mehsud said.
