BUNER: The chilling memory of last month’s catastrophic floods returned to haunt Buner as a fresh cloudburst struck the Gokand area of Tehsil Dagar, sparking renewed fears of flash floods across the region.
Rescue 1122 officials said teams have been placed on high alert to deal with possible emergencies.
A spokesperson urged residents to stay away from rivers and streams amid rising water levels and the looming risk of flooding.
The region is still reeling from the mid-August 2025 disaster, when a rare cloudburst dumped more than 150 mm of rain in just one hour, unleashing deadly flash floods and landslides.
The calamity swept away villages in Beshonai, Pir Baba, Qadar Nagar, and Dagar, leaving a trail of destruction.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 208 people were confirmed dead, while at least 50 remain missing.
Entire families were buried under boulders, homes were destroyed, and bodies lay strewn among debris in one of the deadliest floods in recent memory.
Now, as new rains lash Gokand, locals fear a repeat of the tragedy. Authorities say all possible measures are being taken to minimize damage and protect lives.
