Following a devastating attack at his residence in Malakand, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) district chief Mufti Kifayatullah has passed away, raising the death toll from the tragic incident to four.
The veteran leader succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Islamabad, where he was being treated after being shot by his own son.
The attack, which occurred on August 16, saw Mufti Kifayatullah’s son, Mu’tasim Billah, open fire on his family.
The initial assault instantly claimed the lives of two of the JUI leader’s children—one son and one daughter.
Another daughter also succumbed to her wounds later, bringing the initial death toll to three. Mufti Kifayatullah’s wife was also critically wounded in the shooting.
According to initial police investigations, the motive behind the fatal assault appears to be a domestic dispute.
The accused, Mu’tasim Billah, was apprehended by law enforcement shortly after the incident, and a case has been registered against him.
His arrest and the recovery of the weapon have been confirmed by police.
The death of Mufti Kifayatullah has sent shockwaves through the local community and the JUI party. The funeral prayers are scheduled to be held in Batkhela, where a large gathering of supporters is expected to pay their final respects.
