ISLAMABAD: The information technology (IT) sector achieved a historic milestone in July 2025, with exports soaring to an all-time high of $354 million, according to official figures released on Wednesday.
The number reflects a 24 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase and a 5 per cent month-on-month (MoM) rise, significantly outpacing the 12-month average of $317 million and underscoring the country’s strengthening digital economy.
However, the daily average of IT export proceeds dipped slightly to $15.4 million in July, compared to $17.8 million in June.
A major boost came from the computer services category, which surged 10 per cent MoM to $311 million. Within this segment, software consultancy exports climbed to $104 million, up from $96 million in June.
Drivers of Growth
According to a report by Topline Research, the robust YoY expansion stems from several key factors:
Expansion of client bases, particularly in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets.
State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) incentives, including raising the retention limit in Exporters’ Specialized Foreign Currency Accounts from 35 per cent to 50 per cent.
Permission for equity investment abroad, enabling IT firms to reinvest earnings globally.
Relative stability of the Pakistani Rupee (PKR), which encouraged exporters to repatriate a larger share of income.
A survey by the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) highlighted that 62 per cent of IT firms are now utilizing specialised foreign currency accounts—expected to further improve earnings management and reinvestment.
