The federal government has granted permission for the Pakistan hockey team to participate in the Pro Hockey League and has also approved a financial grant.
During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination, the committee secretary assured that Pakistan’s hockey team would be taking part in the league.
On the occasion, Pakistan Hockey Federation Secretary Rana Mujahid said that the Pro League is a major international event featuring the world’s top 10 teams, and participation would require Rs350 million in funding.
Committee member Mohiuddin Wani clarified that Rs250 million would be provided by the Ministry of Finance, while an additional Rs100 million would be raised through sponsorships.
National team player Imad Butt expressed his delight over the green light for participation, noting that competing in the league would also help improve Pakistan’s international hockey ranking.
He added that there was still time to prepare for the event and thanked the government for its support.
However, Butt also pointed out that the issue of players’ daily allowances remains unresolved. He stressed that the development of hockey should not rely solely on government funds, and that the Hockey Federation must take practical steps to generate resources independently.
