Overseas Pakistanis will soon be able to purchase, sell, register, and transfer vehicles in Pakistan without visiting embassies or authorizing family members through lengthy power of attorney procedures.
Director General Excise and Taxation, Umar Sher Chattha, announced that a system is being developed to facilitate biometric verification abroad.
A formal request has already been submitted to the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) for integration of biometric services under the Pak-ID system for overseas citizens.
Chattha explained that since citizens’ identity cards and vehicle records are already interconnected, remote processing is technically feasible.
Once NADRA enables biometric access, overseas Pakistanis will be able to carry out vehicle-related transactions directly from abroad.
Previously, the process required embassy verification and issuing power of attorney to relatives in Pakistan, often leading to lengthy delays and legal complications. Currently, thousands of car transfers remain pending due to the absence of a proper overseas biometric system.
