The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has confirmed the sighting of the Rabi’ al-Awwal crescent on Saturday, officially declaring Sunday, August 24, 2025, as the first day of the Islamic month.
The twelfth day of Rabi’ al-Awwal will fall on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Saudi Arabia in Pakistan; however, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Karachi today (Sunday) to sight the crescent of the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
According to details, the central meeting will be held after Asr prayers at the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s office in Karachi. Members of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, SUPARCO, the Meteorological Department, and the Ministry of Science and Technology will attend.
Zonal committees will also hold meetings in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, and other cities. The final announcement regarding the sighting will be made by the Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) predicted that there are strong chances of moon sighting on August 24. The SUPARCO spokesperson said that in coastal areas, the gap between sunset and moonset will be around 45 minutes, making visibility possible. As per the prediction, the first of Rabi-ul-Awwal in Pakistan is likely to fall on August 25, and 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal (Eid Milad-un-Nabi) on Friday, September 5.
Meanwhile, the moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal has already been sighted in Saudi Arabia, where the Supreme Court confirmed that the first of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1447 AH falls today (August 24). The Haramain official account posted a photo showing the Makkah Clock Tower illuminated to mark the occasion. Accordingly, 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal will be observed in Saudi Arabia on September 4.
Authorities in Oman also confirmed that the crescent was sighted on August 23, making Sunday the first of Rabi-ul-Awwal. Earlier, Kuwait’s government announced a public holiday on Thursday, September 4, to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
