Fresh torrential monsoon rains wreaked havoc across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir, leaving at least 10 people dead and more than 60 injured as houses collapsed and electricity transmission lines were knocked down.
According to reports, heavy downpours and windstorms in Dera Ismail Khan caused widespread destruction. Roofs of multiple houses caved in, electric poles toppled, and winds gusting at over 100 km/h uprooted trees. 10 people were killed and more than 60 were injured. The city plunged into darkness after the collapse of a main transmission line, cutting the power supply for hours.
In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, heavy rainfall inundated low-lying areas, while Azad Kashmir, Peshawar, Malakand, and Swat also experienced relentless showers. Rising water levels in the Swat River sparked fears of further flooding. In Kaghan Valley, a landslide blocked the road to Lake Saif-ul-Malook, stranding more than 150 tourists who were later shifted to nearby hotels after the route was cleared.
Meanwhile, rivers across the country swelled dangerously. The Sutlej River overflowed in Jalalpur Pirwala after a protective dyke was breached, submerging nearby settlements. Rescue authorities declared a high alert in Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, and Vehari. At Ganda Singh, the Sutlej reached high flood levels, raising concerns of further devastation.
Floodwaters in Jhang damaged standing crops, while thousands of acres of farmland were submerged in Shakargarh due to overflowing streams. Low-level floods were also reported at Head Sulaimanki and in Muzaffargarh.
Authorities have deployed rescue teams in affected regions and urged residents in vulnerable areas to move to safer locations.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain with gusty winds and thundershowers across multiple regions on Sunday. Heavy rainfall is likely in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, and northeast Punjab.
Rain is also expected in parts of south Punjab, northeast and south Balochistan, and southeast Sindh during the evening and night. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and several districts of Punjab may experience heavy downpours. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, widespread showers with the possibility of heavy rain in upper areas are predicted.
Sindh and Balochistan will see partly cloudy and humid conditions, with scattered rain in select districts. Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are also likely to receive thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in some areas.
