KARACHI: Following recent rains in Balochistan’s Hub district, the Hub Dam is close to reaching its maximum capacity, with just six feet of storage remaining before authorities may be forced to open its spillways.
According to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the dam’s total capacity is 340 feet, while the current water level has surged to 334 feet.
Other major reservoirs in the province have also seen significant inflows.
The Mirani Dam in Kech district, which has a storage capacity of 246 feet, is currently holding 226 feet of water. Similarly, the Sabkazai Dam in Zhob district, with a capacity of 94 feet, is filled up to 30 feet.
In stark contrast, dams in the coastal district of Gwadar are facing acute water shortages due to a lack of rainfall.
The Shadi Kaur Dam, with a storage capacity of 82 feet, has dropped to just two feet, bringing its reserves close to dead level.
Officials warn that while some regions benefit from rising water storage, persistent dry conditions in Gwadar highlight uneven rainfall patterns across the province.
