ISLAMABAD — At least 200 cases of child sexual abuse were reported in the federal capital between January 2021 and June 2025, according to figures released by the Interior Ministry.
In a written response to Senator Shahadat Awan, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed the Senate that a total of 567 rape cases were registered in Islamabad during the same period, leading to the arrest of 625 suspects.
Of these cases, 485 were challaned, 80 resulted in convictions, 23 in acquittals, while trials in 406 cases remain pending.
The minister’s report highlighted that among the 200 child abuse cases, 93 victims were boys and 108 were girls.
Police arrested 222 suspects in connection with these crimes, but only 12 have been convicted so far. Fifteen were acquitted, 163 cases remain under trial, and 26 suspects are still at large.
Zone-wise data from Islamabad police showed the highest number of cases in the Saddar Zone (61), followed by the Rural Zone (63), Soan Zone (38), City Zone (17), and I-Area Zone (21).
Yearly figures revealed 2022 as the worst year, with 70 child abuse cases reported. This was followed by 52 cases in 2023, 60 in 2024, and 18 cases registered up to June 2025.
