Khawar Hussain, a young journalist originally from Sanghar and based in Karachi, was found dead inside his car in Sanghar on Saturday, August 16, with a gunshot wound to his head. The grim discovery has raised questions over whether his death was suicide or if foul play was involved.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanghar Abid Baloch, Hussain’s body was found slumped in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked outside a restaurant on Hyderabad Road. A pistol was recovered from his hand, prompting initial speculation that the wound may have been self-inflicted.
However, SSP Baloch later cautioned against drawing premature conclusions. “It is too early to confirm suicide. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death,” he told reporters, adding that investigators are examining all angles. Forensic teams have sealed off the area and collected evidence from the scene.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice of the case, offering condolences to Hussain’s family and directing Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon to appoint senior investigators to probe the matter. “No stone should be left unturned in establishing the facts,” Shah said, assuring full support for the bereaved family.
Hussain had been living in Karachi for nearly a decade and worked with several media outlets during his career. His sudden death has shocked colleagues and the journalist community, who have demanded a transparent investigation and greater protection for media professionals.
So, what happened to Khawar Hussain? At present, the answer remains unclear. While the presence of a pistol suggests possible suicide, police have not ruled out other possibilities. The true cause of death will only be established after the medical report and completion of the investigation.
