Rawalpindi Division has so far reported at least 85 confirmed dengue cases this year, matching the tally recorded by the same date in 2024, health officials said on Saturday.
According to the health department, Rawalpindi has reported 35 cases, while Murree has confirmed 42, raising concerns over a possible worsening outbreak in the hill station. Attock has reported four cases, Chakwal three, and Jhelum one.
Last year, the division recorded a total of 6,869 dengue cases, of which 6,564 were from Rawalpindi alone.
Health officials confirmed that no dengue-related fatalities have occurred in the division so far this year. However, hospitals have received 9,614 suspected dengue patients, with 311 confirmed cases. Currently, 15 patients are under treatment in hospitals, including 10 in Murree.
Authorities have intensified anti-dengue operations. In Rawalpindi, officials registered 2,440 FIRs, sealed 1,112 premises, issued 2,819 challans, and imposed fines of more than Rs40 million over the presence of dengue larvae.
In Murree, 43 FIRs were lodged, 189 premises sealed, and fines worth Rs730,000 imposed. Health teams reported finding dengue larvae in 1,747 houses during inspections.
Meanwhile, Punjab schools are set to reopen on Monday after a shortened summer break, coinciding with the peak dengue season.
