The British Council has opened applications for the Scotland Pakistan Scholarships for Young Women and Girls for the 2025–26 academic year.
Funded by the Scottish government and administered by the British Council, the programme provides financial assistance for bachelor’s and master’s/MPhil studies in HEC-recognised universities across Pakistan, with a focus on improving higher education access for women—particularly those from rural and disadvantaged communities.
Scholarships are offered in disciplines including education, sustainable energy, food security and agriculture, health sciences, STEM, and climate-related fields. The funding covers a four-year bachelor’s degree or a two-year master’s/MPhil programme.
An impact evaluation report notes that the initiative has boosted female enrolment and retention rates while enhancing career opportunities. Many graduates have gone on to contribute significantly in education, health, and agriculture sectors.
“These scholarships reflect a shared commitment between Scotland and Pakistan to champion education, equality, and opportunity,” said British Council Deputy Director Maarya Rehman. “Investing in women’s education is investing in a brighter, more inclusive future for us all.”
Applicants must be Pakistani nationals living in Pakistan, hold confirmed admission to an HEC-recognised university, and meet the eligibility criteria for the listed fields. Women with disabilities, from rural areas, or minority backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
