Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has announced that, after the approval of Sindh’s own power regulatory authority, the people of Karachi will now receive cheaper electricity.
In a statement, Nasir Hussain Shah announced that the Sindh Assembly has constitutionally approved the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA), and people have been recruited in SEPRA. Its notification will also be issued this month.
He said that now the citizens of Karachi will also be able to get cheap electricity, and we will be able to set electricity rates ourselves. The rates for cheap electricity will be much lower compared to K-Electric.
The Energy Minister said that the electricity transmitted by STDC will have no connection with NEPRA’s rates. We will generate electricity ourselves and transmit it under STDC. That is why the rates for electricity transmitted through STDC will be much lower than NEPRA’s.
Nasir Shah further said that cheap electricity will be provided to Karachi’s industries and residents under SEPRA, and efforts are being made to provide the first supply of electricity under SEPRA to the Four Grid.
