Pakistan’s seasoned opener Fakhar Zaman is expected to recover in time for the ACC Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to begin on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates, providing a timely boost to the national team’s top-order.
Sources close to the left-handed batsman have confirmed that his recent hamstring injury — sustained during the second T20 International against the West Indies in Lauderhill, Florida — is not serious.
Currently in Dubai after returning from the United States, Fakhar is expected to reach Pakistan tonight to begin his rehabilitation under the supervision of the PCB medical team.
Speaking informally about the issue, Fakhar described the injury as “mild” and said he anticipates full recovery within 10 to 15 days. This optimistic timeline aligns with Pakistan’s preparation schedule ahead of the Asia Cup, where the Men in Green will face arch-rivals India and other top Asian teams.
Due to the injury, Fakhar missed the third T20I and the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies. This setback marks his second injury this year; he previously suffered an oblique muscle tear during a match against New Zealand, which ruled him out of the high-voltage ICC Champions Trophy clash against India.
Despite these fitness concerns, Fakhar’s recent form remains promising. In the Florida T20I series, he scored 28 off 24 balls in the first match and 20 off 19 in the second before pulling up injured while fielding. Pakistan went on to win the series 2-1, claiming the decider by 13 runs.
Team management and selectors are hopeful that Fakhar’s experience and attacking flair at the top of the order will play a vital role in Pakistan’s Asia Cup campaign.
With just over a month remaining, fans are eagerly awaiting his return, as the squad looks to fine-tune its combination ahead of one of Asia’s premier cricketing events.
